Why did I start to dive?

A few years ago, I was going through a great sadness and urgently needed to do something that would make me react, but I did not know what.

While searching the internet for something to do, an old memory came to my mind: when I was about 5 years old, my mom prepared the bath for me. I put in my mouth a medallion that she had given me, I immersed myself and imagined that I was a diver like Jacques Cousteau. I remembered that I was very happy playing like that. And I said to myself: "What if I learn to dive?" So I looked for someone who could teach me how to dive in Chile, and I found a dive center in the city of La Serena. I asked for info and I signed up for a diving course, without having much idea what it was about. I was excited to have this new experience, which I thought could help me to overcome my sadness.

And I was not wrong!

From the first moment I submerged myself when I took the first class in confined water, all my demons disappeared. Little by little, the sadness was giving way to this powerful experience: I was under the water, in an environment where it is impossible to survive and yet I was alive!

I could not believe it !!!

I was happy, I felt myself full of a new energy, I was full of desire to keep going and not stop anymore, because my sadness turned into joy and my pain into pleasure.

This is why I am a diver: because it makes me happy, it makes me have new adventures, to know new places, to try new challenges, to expand my limits and to go where I have never been before.

Diving moved me from the hole, and I do not think I'm the only one in the world that has been through the same thing.

Therefore, this is one of the reasons why I became an instructor: if at any time I can help rescue others from the abyss of sadness to take them to know the freedom that they coud find at the Great Blue.
